Shadow Path Journal | GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSIONS

Submitting an article, poem, image, or other work for publication in the newsletter acknowledges the right of Devil’s Mark Ministries, LLC to publish and print your work. Please see THIS POST for more information. 

 Submissions are currently VOLUNTEER ONLY and submitters acknowledge that they will not be paid for their contributions. 

Please familiarize yourself with the style and content of the newsletter before sending articles or ideas. All work must be in keeping with the principles of Shadow Path Diabolism. All prose must conform to the Chicago Manual of Style. Outside sources used in the writing of articles must be cited for inclusion in the issue’s bibliography.

Before writing an article or other work for inclusion in the newsletter, please contact the Managing Editor with a proposal that includes the type of work (prose, poem, image, etc.), the subcategory to which it belongs if possible (e.g. book review, op-ed, cultural article), and a 1-3 sentence description of the subject being discussed or portrayed. All work must be approved before being included in an issue of the newsletter. You will receive a response to your proposal within 3 working days.

After approval, please submit your work within 3 weeks. If extra time is needed, please contact the editors. All articles and images MUST be submitted at least one week before the deadline of each newsletter. Newsletters will be released on the 6^th of March, June, September, and December, with an additional release on the 15^th of October.

 

WRITTEN WORK

·         All articles must be previously unpublished and the author’s own work.

·         Articles should be a minimum of 500 words and a maximum of 2000 words. Poems should be no more than 50-60 lines; however, some leeway is allowable with editor approval. Recipes, crafts, and other instructionals should be around 100-500 words (not including ingredients list) but will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

·         Please ensure that articles are proofread before submitting. The editors will also proofread all submissions and may edit where required. Authors will be contacted if significant edits are necessary.

·         Desired titles may be included and are encouraged. The editors may edit titles if necessary but will take author preferences into account wherever possible.

·         Written work may be submitted in .txt, .rtf, or .doc/.docx format.

 

IMAGES

·       Writers are encouraged to submit images to go along with their articles, though this is not required. Images may also be submitted alone without accompanying articles.

·         Images may take the form of:

•          Photographs
•      Scans or high quality, well-centered photographs of original artwork
•         Original digital artwork
•          Stand-alone elements with transparent backgrounds

·         Images must either be original work, or images for which the submitter is the sole copyright holder.

·         Images resolution should be 300dpi. 72dpi is acceptable if the image dimensions are 16x20 inches or above.

·         Images may be submitted in .jpg, .png, or .tiff; images with transparent backgrounds must be .png or .tiff. Other file types may be allowed (such as .psd); please contact the editors if this is required.
